A Creative Journey

David Attali is a French film director, video artist, and producer based in Hong Kong for nearly three decades. His work moves between cinema, documentary, and video art, driven by a fascination with human connection and the search for meaning across cultures. Fluent in seven languages—including Cantonese and Japanese—he approaches every project with a rare ability to navigate places, people, and stories from the inside.

His travels and film work have taken him from the outskirts of Paris to the white deserts of North Africa and the jungles of Sri Lanka. Whether he’s crafting a short film, shaping a piece of video art, or directing a commercial campaign, his focus is constant: creating images that resonate emotionally and linger long after the frame fades.

David’s recent direction includes award-winning work for UBS with fashion artist Guo Pei, which received two Silver Dolphins at the Cannes Corporate & Media Awards, as well as projects for Hermès. His mini-documentary Paddling Home is part of the permanent collection at Hong Kong’s M+ Museum.

His films include Dance Not Die—winner of the Audience Award for its intimate portrait of resilience in old age—and Speedsters, a kinetic night-time chase on rollerblades that premiered at Soho House Hong Kong and has since reached audiences worldwide. His narrative short Itch delves into pain as a metaphor for the emotional friction of office politics.

David has also directed “Cinema Conversations,” capturing rare on-camera encounters with Catherine Deneuve, Jacques Audiard, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Gaspar Noé, Jalil Lespert, Isabelle Huppert, and Christophe Lambert.

Alongside his artistic practice, he leads commercial, production services and broadcast productions through The Hong Kong Fixer which he founded in 2004. He recently directed a 32-film documentary series for InvestHK, with additional credits including France 5’s Échappées Belles, Netflix’s Restaurants on the Edge, and Disney+’s Own the Room.

David’s work is grounded in curiosity, precision, and a commitment to revealing the humanity inside every story—whether it’s a global campaign or a quiet moment captured on the street.
